The title represents different times in my life. From the sany sixties to now. Though now I wish I had gone back a couple of years more. For those of you who want "Unfaithful Diane" and "Blind Date", God willing, they will be on my next album. "Lyin' Again" was written by Harlan Howard. My producer picked the song for me back when I was with MGM. I think that was about 1964. The song did very well, though I think I over sang it. This time, I just went with the flow and it was fun.
"Old Fashioned Ways", I hope you like this song as much as I do. I took it from my mother's writings and wrote music to it. (Mom) I hope you like it. "Down at the Pawn Shop", my wife wanted me to quit singing and I did. At the time I was writing for 4-Star Music. They bought me a portable Sony tape recorder and gave me a weekly pay check and told me to send the songs as I wrote them. I have always over spent and almost every week I would pawn the tape recorder. When I would get my next weeks pay, I would go and get it back then write another song. The owner of the pawn shop thought it funny. So I wrote a song about the pawn shop. When Hank Snow recorded it, I gave him a copy. "If Down Was Up", it's just a song my brother and I wrote on the way to Chicago. "Just Because the Sun is Shining (Don't Mean It's a Sunny Day) heard somebody say that 30 years ago. But, I didn't write the song until March of this year. "I'm in Love", I wrote it in April of this year. The only reason was because my wife said I never write anything about her. I like it. "A-11", this song was written by Hank Cochran. Several artists have recorded it and had success with the song. Although, I was first to record "A-11" and have a hit with the song. That was when I was with Capitol Records. I think it was 1962. "Love Me Like That", again I thank my mother for this song. Though she never wrote a word of it, we had just lost my Dad. I stood beside the car as they began to drive her away from the grave site. She turned her head to look one last time. And I looked straight in the face of True Love. Something inside of me said (Love Me Like That). It was written before I reached home. Eddy Arnold first recorded the song, then Sonny James. Only now am I ready to sing it for you. "By Gone", my mother wrote the chorus of this song in a poem years ago. I only recently wrote the verses and the music while working on this album. "Meet Me at the Altar", my brother, Chuck, and I wrote long ago. Some time after, my wife let me start singing again. Perry Como was the first to record the song well. Now you know about the songs on this album. I sure hope you will find something in it that you will like. It's been real fun talking to you, except now you know that I'm not a youngster. I think you know that anyway. Thank You. Your Friend,
